GTA VI 'Americas' and RDR1 PC Files Accidentally Included In Rockstar Launcher Update
In a recent update to the Rockstar Launcher, files were discovered referencing GTA VI (codenamed 'Americas') and Red Dead Redemption 1, further confirming that both games are in development for PC.
In a long overdue update, Grand Theft Auto V on PC now includes anti-cheat protection, provided by BattlEye. This was added to the game via Rockstar Games' Launcher this week. What stood out the most from this update, however, were three new configuration folders included with the update that reference unannounced games for the PC platform. Red Dead Redemption 1 - which, after multiple leaks, has long been expected to launch on PC in the near future, GTA V Gen9 (also known as the next-gen version of GTA 5 seen on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) and "Americas", the famous codename for Grand Theft Auto VI as seen in September 2022's leaks.
While there's no data inside the launcher to offer any further updates on any of the unreleased games, the fact these development folders have been left in for a public release is worrying for Rockstar Games and essentially confirms what many of us have already known, that the games are in active development for a future release on PC.
An additional update to the launcher fixed this data leak, so anyone yet to update will no longer receive the files.
Unconfirmed reports indicate there was an "Americas" config file included in the update which was uploaded to Pastebin, as shown below. I've been unable to confirm a source for this data, so take it with a pinch of salt.
```{ "metadataVersion": 1, "environment": "dev", "titleId": "arc", "rosTitleId": 20, "friendlyName": "Americas", "installFolderRegKey": "Rockstar Games\\Americas", "installFolderRegValueName": "InstallFolder", "principalFileName": "game_win64_master.exe", "appdataFolderName": "Americas", "downloadAndSwap": false, "cloudSaveFiles" : [ "SARC0000", "SARC0001", "SARC0002", "SARC0003", "SARC0004", "SARC0005", "SARC0006", "SARC0007", "SARC0008", "SARC0009", "SARC0010", "SARC0011", "SARC0012", "SARC0013", "SARC0014", "SARC0015", "ProfileSettings", "Player", "KeyMappings", "KeyMappingsAutoSave" ], "platforms": { "default": { "cloud" : true, "noAccessToken" : true } }, "preqs": [ "vcredist20152019x64", "directx", ], "safeMode": true, "modScan": true, "languages": [ "en-US", "de-DE", "es-ES", "es-MX", "fr-FR", "it-IT", "ru-RU", "pl-PL", "pt-BR", "zh-CHT", "zh-CHS", "ja-JP", "ko-KR" ], "crashpadSamplingPercent": 100 }```
If real, this data clearly comes from a game still in development and is obviously subject to change, but appears to show:
- The game will include 16 cloud save files.
- There is configuration for a "modScan" setting which may hint at the PC version of GTA VI including mod functionality. This wouldn't be a surprise following Rockstar's acquisition of FiveM - a fan-run mod group for GTA V. It may just be a setting to detect any modified files.
- The developmental title ID for the game is "arc" and has a Rockstar Online Service title ID of 20.
- The game will apparently contain support for the following languages:
- English (United States), German (Germany), Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), French (France), Italian (Italy), Russian (Russia), Polish (Poland), Portuguese (Brazil), Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simplified), Japanese (Japan), Korean (South Korea).
It does seem like things are slowly starting to heat up on the GTA VI front though. Will we get an official update from Rockstar Games before the end of 2024?
