Rockstar Recruiting For A 'Creator Platform' - GTA VI May Support UGC and Mods

Rockstar Games appears to be building a Creator Platform following a recent job posting for Senior Production Coordinators in Leeds and London. Could mods be officially supported in GTA VI?

Rockstar Games are stepping up recruitment in their worldwide studios ahead of GTA VI's final stretch of development, with new positions being advertised on an almost daily basis. One particularly interesting new role is for a Senior Production Coordinator, Creator Platform in Leeds and London.

While Grand Theft Auto V allowed players to create custom races and other online activities through the in-game creator, I don't recall there ever being an official "creator platform", besides the ability to search for jobs on Social Club.

It seems that user generated content is going to be a much bigger feature for Rockstar going forward and the most interesting part comes in the desirable skills section of the job spec;

  • Experience in or knowledge of UGC products.
  • Experience with or knowledge of modding games.

Why would Rockstar be recruiting someone with experience modding games if they didn't plan on integrating that functionality into their next game? This also follows their acquisiton of FiveM, one of the largest modding platforms for GTA V, however FiveM have their own recruitment processes, so it's seemingly unrelated to that.

Reading between the lines, it seems increasingly likely that modifications and user generated content will be officially supported by Rockstar Games in GTA VI, perhaps even seeing the introduction of official modding tools, allowing players to customize the game in unprecedented ways.

Mods are no longer restricted to PC either, with console games like Fallout 4 providing functionality for players to download and install user created modifications straight to their console. If Rockstar were to implement something similar for GTA VI it would massively increase the replayability of the game and certainly wouldn't do any harm to their sales, or that of the PS5 Pro with its 2TB SSD.

More information will be revealed in the future, but the recent job posting gives us a good hint at increased UGC support for Grand Theft Auto VI.
